The team of the Istoki Endowment Fund joins all Russians in honoring the Russian students and teaching staff, and also offers its special congratulations to the nominal scholars of the Fund from the Baltic State Technical University “Voenmeh”.
The history of today’s holiday is connected with the Lomonosov Moscow State University, which celebrates its birth on this day. In 1755, Empress Elizaveta Petrovna signed a decree establishing the university. The idea of its creation belongs to the Adjutant-General of the Empress Ivan Shuvalov and Mikhail Lomonosov. According to the Orthodox church calendar, January 25 is the day of remembrance of the St. Martyr Tatyana, so she became the patroness of the Moscow University and then of all Russian students.
