In 2007, implementation of the project “You are not alone” was initiated, which is aimed at providing psychological support to pregnant women who find themselves in a difficult situation. The main objective of the project is to prevent induced abortion. The mechanism of the project consists in the promotion of psychological care at maternity welfare centres. The pilot project site was Krasnoyarsk where, in 2009, a psychologist position was introduced at all maternity welfare centres. The main result of project implementation — thousands of saved lives! The effectiveness of this specialized psychological work can be measured in up to 18 % saved pregnancies among the total number of women consulted.
The main project partners — Smolensk, Vologda, Kurgan Region, Novosibirsk. Awareness-raising events on the project took place in the Republic of Mordovia, the Primorye Territory, Pskov, Rostov, Sverdlovsk, Belgorod, Yaroslavl, Smolensk, Nizhni Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Orel, Vologda, Ryazan, Kaliningrad and Sakhalin regions.
The “You are not alone” project entailed the compilation of a series of publications, including the brochure “You’re pregnant? You’re pregnant… You’re pregnant!” — a referral for a psychological consultation for patients facing crisis pregnancies that also contains positive informational materials about the joys of motherhood and answers to frequently-asked questions. The project is quickly gaining steam. In 2015–2016, serious work is planned for its launch in Russian regions that have just joined the national programme “Sanctity of Motherhood.”
