For several years, the Foundation of Saint Andrew the First-Called, together with “Gidrostroy” Group of Companies, conduct medical and educational expeditions to Sakhalin and Kuril Islands with financial support from Endowment Fund “ISTOKI”. The expedition reaches the remote territories of Russia and includes high-end specialists from the country’s leading medical centers.
Medical workers examine the patients free of charge. There have been two expeditions to Kuril Islands every year since 2007. Traditionally, pediatric specialists arrive in spring while medical workers for the adult population come in autumn.
It was Oleg Atkov, the winner of the “Faith and Loyalty” Award, a cosmonaut, doctor and scientist, Hero of the Soviet Union, who came up with the idea to organize the medical and educational expedition “The Frontiers of Russia”. The main goal of the program is to establish a closer connection between citizens of different Russian regions, to provide medical help along with cultural, educational and spiritual support for compatriots living at the frontiers of our country.
