The scholarships are granted by “ISTOKI” Fund for outstanding young researchers from the legendary institution of “Voenmeh”, one of the leading Russian centers for engineering and design.
Endowment Fund “ISTOKI” chooses candidates on a competitive basis to provide scholarships for the best young researchers from the Baltic State Technical University “Voenmeh” (Saint Petersburg). The legendary institution of “Voenmeh” is one of the leading Russian centers of engineering and design.
Vladimir Yakunin, a “Voenmeh” graduate and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of “ISTOKI” Fund, came up with the initiative to grant these scholarships. A great number of factors were taken into consideration when candidates for the scholarships were selected, such as involvement in scientific activity, published materials, grants received and first ranks in academic competitions. However, the most important thing was to have one’s own experimental engineering projects.
The goal of the program is to support the young generation of Russian scientists and to facilitate technical innovations, along with establishing competitive scientific schools
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF ENDOWMENT FUND “ISTOKI”

“The mission of “ISTOKI” Fund is to support the fundamental institutions of Russian society, Russian science and education included. The legendary Saint Petersburg institution of “Voenmeh” is one of the historical centers of Russian scientific and technical ideas where they managed to establish and preserve the unique school of science and engineering design. The scholarship initiated by the Fund is our contribution to the support of a young generation of researchers and for the development of the school. As a “Voenmeh” graduate, I was curious to learn what present-day post-graduate students from my alma mater have been doing. I must admit that the projects presented have appeared to be much more advanced than those we used to work on. The winners are fellows of brilliant mind. They do not just do their work properly but also can present it the best way possible”.
Konstantin Ivanov
“For us, the scholarship from “ISTOKI” Fund is not an ordinary thing. It is a clever way to support the activity of our young scientists as far as the main areas of activity of our university are concerned. I am glad the initiative to provide scholarships was granted to outstanding “Voenmeh” graduates”.
